DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Gunflint Pines is 43 miles up the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway (that’s a highway).

As you drive through our iconic boreal forest keep an eye out for wildlife: moose, red or gray fox, whitetail deer, black bear, coyotes, timber wolves, pine martens, fishers, otters, ruffed or spruce grouse, Canada lynx, golden and bald eagles, or—in the winter—perhaps even snowy or great gray owls.

Be sure to take a break in Grand Marais to gas up, set maps for our location, and stretch for the hour-long trip up the Trail. There’s no reason to speed. Relax: You’re on vacation.

  • From Duluth, Minnesota, take Hwy 61 (North Shore Drive) 2 hours to Grand Marais, Minnesota.

  • Pass thru Grand Marais and turn left on the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway (Cook County Highway 12).

  • Travel 43 Miles to South Gunflint Lake Road (Cook County Road 20—old 50).

  • There’s a large sign with Gunflint Pines and several other resort names on it at the corner of the Gunflint Trail and South Gunflint Lake Road. Turn right, then travel about 1.1 miles. You’ll pass by the Gunflint Lodge, and Gunflint Pines Resort & Campground will be the next property on the left.

If you have questions, feel free to call us at 218-388-4454, but remember that you’ll lose cell phone reception about 10 miles from Grand Marais. We look forward to greeting you!
