SPEND A SUMMER WORKING AT GUNFLINT PINES
We may be a small family resort, but we do need help during the summer months. Working at a resort can be the most challenging and most memorable time of your life. The days can be long and hard, but having access to hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing at your doorstep is priceless to individuals who love the outdoors. We look for employees who are willing to work hard and do what it takes to get the job done. Sometimes that means a little extra one day and a little easier the next.
It’s a team effort to run a small resort like ours; we all must be willing to help each one another. You must be flexible and able to work independently. Daily schedules change with guests’ needs. You will get your hands dirty now and then. We will not ask you to do something that we ourselves have never done, would not do, or cannot do.
We usually look for 2 people to work 3 months—one starting in mid-May to mid-August at a minimum, the other late June to the end of September. We have also at times hired a “camp host” couple who would reside in their own camper on one of our campsites in exchange for a few responsibilities.
Work can vary widely ranging from the daily chores such as bagging ice, working the snackbar, stocking wood, recycling, tidying up the waterfront and evening trash run. Weekly chores include cabin cleaning and laundry, store restocking, groundskeeping and guest activities. Projects such as staining & painting, landscaping or light building maintenance will also occur throughout the summer. Each employee will be asked to help in all areas of the resort.
Terms of Employment: You must be at least 18 years of age, and have a valid drivers license. You can expect 40 hours per week. We work daily between 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. taking time off as the day will allow. You will have two days off per week. Days off will not be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. You will also host at least one evening guest activity (e.g., campfire with s’mores).
Most often our staff live on property. We offer a small bunk room or a Rustic camper. If you have your own camper or a relative owns a nearby cabin please discuss options with us. Since you are living and working on property, you will become like part of our family and thus your appearance and actions will reflect upon Gunflint Pines. Smoking is not allowed in any Gunflint Pines Buildings including staff housing. Drugs will not be tolerated. Because of the location of staff housing (virtually in the center of the property), noise must be kept to a minimum. Visitors, overnight or otherwise, are not allowed except by prior approval. Staff housing is 100% dependent on working at Gunflint Pines. If you lose your job, you lose your housing, too.
As a benefit to working with us, employees have access to the canoes, kayaks, sauna, and boats & motors on a limited basis, by approval (they must be available for guest use first). Employees are responsible for their own meals.
Things to consider in working at Gunflint Pines:
Currently ATT is the only cell provider in our area. Other cell providers do not work.
We are located 43 miles from the nearest town.
We have Wifi throughout camp.
We run on a minimal staff and do not have local resources to draw upon so we cannot accommodate additional time off in the summer for weddings, concerts, family vacations, reunions, etc.
You should be comfortable being alone since we only hire a couple people.
Do not accept a position with us if you can’t complete the time you agree upon with us.
