HIKING AND SNOWSHOEING

DOZENS OF MILES OF BORDER COUNTRY TRAILS BEGIN AT YOUR DOORSTEP

You can find a variety of hiking and snowshoeing experiences nearby. Whether it’s a short hike to lookout point or to Lonely Lake or the slightly more challenging hike to the High Cliffs 400+ feet above Gunflint Lake’s elevation, we have a trek to suit all abilities. Follow the Border Route Trail through the wilderness or take one of the nearby Superior National Forest trails to Magnetic Rock or the Kekekabic Hiking Trail to the abandoned Paulson Mine. Spend the day on the Caribou Rock Trail or trek to Bridal Falls or Honeymoon Bluff. All these offer great scenery and great exercise.

In the winter, you can snowshoe along the shoreline to spot deer or hike up to one of our nearby scenic vistas. Whether you are breaking trail across the windswept lake or following the path of someone who trekked before you, snowshoeing is a great way for the entire family to experience the outdoors together.

Snowshoe rentals are $15 per day—complimentary for Gunflint Pines cabin guests.
